Let's Quickly Examine Marble For Your Bathroom Vanity

Marble has its own type of appeal to anybody that loves it. The stone can have a homey type of appearance with a natural patina or it can have that pristine showroom quality that many are looking for.

If you love a natural patina, this type of stone would work well in your bathroom. If you’re looking for the pristine showroom kind of quality, you may want to restrict your use of delicate stones to vertical surfaces only and totally avoid using them on anything horizontal.

Marble on bathroom vanities

You should be aware that it will look great when it is first installed. Afterwards, however, it can be affected by a variety of materials that are commonly used on the bathroom sink including shaving cream, soap, makeup, toothpaste, mouthwash etc.

These kinds of household products can leave an etching on the stone that you will have to learn to love or you will despise it forever.

A double-edged sword

One of the problems with installing marble bathroom countertops is you will see any problems on the counter more clearly due to the lighting conditions in the room. Most lavatories are equipped with bright lights so that scratches and etchings show up clearly.

While it is often recommended for bathroom use by many experts, the damage appearing on it will be more visible in this room than it would be in the kitchen.

Just Gotta Have It?

If you absolutely have to have marble in your house because you love it so much you’re better off putting it in your lavatory than in your kitchen. During normal household use, it will be subjected to less wear and tear on average in a bathroom and will maintain its appearance better. Consider this if you were or are thinking about installing it in your kitchen.

What About Cultured Stone

One thing that you may want to consider is cultured marble versus a stone slab. This is a beautiful vanity top that has been processed with stone chips and resin. Together, these materials make a wonderful bathroom statement while providing more durability overall.

One last thing to consider

If you are considering marble for a bathroom that will be used by your children, consider the effects it will have on your family if you are trying to keep this countertop looking its best. You’re fortunate to have a loving home with children in it and the time that you spend fussing over keeping it clean and new with a growing family may not be worth your time.
